Il Segretario alla Difesa Gates ha comunicato che la proposta di Putin di utilizzare una base in Azerbaijan per impiantare un sistema radar anti-missile nell’ambito di una cooperazione Russia-USA-Europa non inciderà sul programma americano di impiantare sistemi anti-missili in Polonia e nella Rep. Ceca.
Gates ha dichiarato che la proposta di Putin è positiva ma la base in Azerbaijan va considerata come un possibile elemento aggiuntivo rispetto a quelli previsti in Polonia e nella Rep. Ceca.
